Our mission is to provide exceptional, safe, affordable afterschool care to children in kindergarten through grade five in a Christ-centered environment.

Our days

The SPACE operates Mon-Fri from 2-6pm, in conjunction with the Henrico County Public School Calendar. The SPACE is also open early on half-days and open all day on some holidays teacher workdays. Please visit our calendar tab for specific dates.

Our afternoons

Our afternoons include time for snack, a devotional, homework, free play and recreation as well as the opportunity to unwind from a busy school day. We also enjoy Bible Adventures with Gayton's Kids Pastor, Mrs. Hillary as well as other seasonal special programs. 

Bus service

Bus service is available from Gayton, Nuckols Farm, and Short Pump Elementary Schools.

Acceptance

The SPACE admits students of any race, color, national and ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs and activities offered at the school. The SPACE is a tax-exempt, non-profit organization and is religiously exempt from licensing by the Department of Social Services of the Commonwealth of VA.

​Hi. I'm Hillary. I am a daughter, sister, wife and mother, trying to love the Lord with all my heart and to love my neighbors as myself. I am passionate about serving and supporting children and families, building relationships, and learning. 
I believe that kids matter. Prior to joining the Kids Ministry team at Gayton, I served as a special educator and reading specialist in the Hanover County Public Schools for 14 years. I have a bachelor’s degree in Religious Studies and a master’s degree in Education. I love that I get the opportunity to combine both to support children and families in our GBC/ASQ community as a member of the Kids Ministry team.

Hi! I'm Annette! Three of my greatest passions in this life: Jesus, family and kids. I am grateful for the opportunity to combine these passions as I serve as the director of the SPACE Afterschool program and Quest Summer camp at a church that I love. Richmond born and bred, I travelled southwest for a short time to receive my Elementary Education degree from Longwood College where I met my husband, Greg. While raising our three daughters, I felt God’s call to ministry. After completing a Children’s Ministry Certification through Virginia Baptists and a very long season of waiting, God placed me in this role at Gayton where I love serving the children and families of Short Pump.

For the last 15 years, I have worn many different hats with AGAPE Preschool, the SPACE, and Quest.  Being a classroom teacher is how I got my start and have since moved into an administrative role as the Financial Director of the ASQ programs. I live within a 5 mile radius of the church and have just recently sent my youngest child to college. We welcomed my son's new bride, Scarlett, to the family in October. Christian and Scarlett live in the Richmond area, and my daughters, Madison and Grace, are both away at school. I enjoy decorating my home and spending time with family and friends. I continue to feel blessed every day to work with these amazing ministries.
